COLLABORATION

COLLABORATION

The Institute Research Lab is a co-working resource for talented, independent creatives, within Loughborough town centre, 10 minutes walk from Loughborough train station.

MULTI DISCIPLINARY

Graffio Arts have worked with two local creatives, Joe Cook and Aidan Matthews, to develop a creative co-working space within Loughborough. The Institute Research Lab is a cross generational, cross disciplinary, melting pot of creative media practice. The lab is providing opportunities for media skills, practice, research and development within the local area. We believe that this benefits local creatives and the wider community in various financial and cultural ways.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • We are interested in collaborating with artists that are interested in work that is mediated with some form of technology. These may be from the field of New Media Art or beyond. There are artists, designers, programmers and others from across the arts spectrum, working at the lab. The use of media is a common thread that encourages collaboration across these disciplines. Although as an artist, you are likely to be focused on developing your practice, we encourage those that are interested, to offer knowledge, alternative points of view or technology expertise to live projects. In turn, those with a design or commercial focus may be able to help you develop and communicate your practice in new ways.

  • We are looking for outstanding creatives with knowledge and skills within design, production and marketing. Graphics, web, film, photography, sound, editing, copy writing, marketing

  • Are you from some kind of technology background and interested in how your skills and knowledge can be integrated with arts projects? Get in touch…

  • We are interested in collaborating with projects managers, admins and those that are interested in support from a marketing background. We are also interested in talking to those that are interested in events management from a curation, logistics or installation background.

THE BENEFITS OF COLLABORATION

When we work together, we learn faster, we accomplish more and we are exposed to new ideas and new horizons. A variety of skill sets available to cover broader projects. Institute works with the lab to develop creative practice and to seek new creative and commercial opportunities for it’s members.

LAB DEVELOPMENT

The more that you are willing to put into the lab, the more you will likely get out of the experience. The lab is a new enterprise and it’s future will largely be defined by the responding to the experiences of it’s members.

GET INVOLVED

New members of the lab are included in many of the decisions relating to the labs development. If you’d like to take part in developing where the lab goes tomorrow then get in touch.

LIFE AT THE LAB

At the lab you will meet other co-workers from the world of art, design and technology. You will see clients working with Institute on live projects as well as representatives of local arts organisations. You will be able to give advice to developing interns and seek advice from those more experienced than you. You will be able to make contacts during live events and show your work to local audiences.

NOT FOR PROFIT

Institute Research Lab is run as a not-for-profit, Community Interest Company and is a cross-generational, collaboration founded by Graffio Arts, Joe Cook and Aidan Matthews.

INSTITUTE VS THE LAB

The lab has a symbiotic relationship with Institute. Those working at the lab have the potential opportunity to work on Institute projects.

Institute is a Graffio Arts Initiative born out of an ambition to collaborate with a host of local talent from across the disciplines of the arts, design and technology. Those that we collaborate with do so under their own names and bring specific expertise to projects.

Institute is interested in ideas and in the ways that they are communicated. When communicating to a remote audience, we are interested in the nature of the media technology that enables these kinds of interactions. We work across disciplines on both live and research projects relating to media practice development.

EVENTS

We host events, have media and business mentoring and are open to creatives looking to take the next step in their careers and practice.

THE USE OF MEDIA

The development of ideas and our desire to communicate them have always been defining characteristics of human culture. How we transmit our ideas to a remote audience continues to evolve and is now typically linked to the use of existing or emergent media technology. Institute Research Lab is interested in these ideas and in the different ways that they are mediated.

To investigate this as broadly as possible we collaborate at the media intersection of arts practice, design methodology and the use of enabling technologies. We encourage those interested in the use of media, across disciplines, to join us.

The lab should be a melting pot for different perspectives, different skills and different technologies under the media umbrella.

MAKING A SCENE

We take local optics seriously- we must communicate the creative projects produced within the lab to provide a beacon for local individuals, organisations and brands- to educate, inspire and generate conversation within the local area.
