SKILLS
We are developing technical and transferable skills training programmes that empower business to innovate.
Our skills training programmes develop critical, creative and analytical thinking as well as data, information and digital literacy. This creates the context required to understand and take full advantage of the shifting emergent AI and assistive technologies landscape.
21st Century Skills
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.
-Toffler, A. (1970). Future Shock.
Institute provides training with a focus on real-world problem solving. This happens within a multi-disciplinary work environment, in person and online, delivered by experts that understand the challenges of academia and the industry requirement for life long learning.
We are developing educational frameworks that provide a unique focus on core transferable skills including: collaboration, communication, creative thinking, information literacy, organising, planning and prioritising, problem solving and decision making. This is bolstered with the introduction of new areas for assessment including the use of business systems and the development of assistive technologies. These are systems designed to develop the fundamental skills required to navigate and thrive within 21st Century industry.
We need to bring back the belief that you can change the world, one piece at a time if you have the ambition, knowledge and skills.
Institute is also working with universities and colleges to provide internships and apprenticeships as well as developing knowledge transfer partnerships that deliver skills training for business.
Keynotes
Institute’s keynotes typically cover bigger picture concepts. We tackle issues as broadly and openly as possible to bring fresh perspectives to bear. You will not find members of institute proclaiming themselves to be ‘thought leaders’. We use experience, open enquiry and transferable skills to examine the nature of topics and to communicate this in context. Our role is not to provide answers but to highlight the kinds of questions that you may ask as you seek a more thorough understanding of a topic. The understanding of fundamental concepts facilitates repeat development of fit-for-purpose, practical solutions to business challenges as new technologies emerge.
Typical subjects for investigation often include the role of business within a changing landscape and it’s relationship to culture, emergent assistive and media technology, communications, productivity, skills and information flow.
In the current climate, as you can probably imagine, these discussions often centre around the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Seminars and Workshops
We are often asked to design and develop bespoke seminars or workshops. These sessions can be in-person, online or a mix of both. These sessions differ from Keynotes in terms of focus. While Keynotes map the landscape, seminars develop knowledge, focused on one issue and workshops become practical as that knowledge is applied in context.
Bespoke courses
We develop targeted courses with specific agendas for industry, including knowledge transfer partnerships with academia. These courses are often comprised of units and grouped within modules in the form of seminars and workshops. These courses can be delivered in-person, online or a mix of both. Although these courses are developed to meet specific requirements for learning, empowerment in industry is the ultimate goal.
Currently Running Courses

Academy
We are developing Academy as an online learning platform that emphasises the development of competencies in the critical skills required by 21st century industry. Academy will serve as a resource for learning materials that bolster in-person education programmes as well as a place to engage with discrete online learning courses.
ABC Framework
Institute has designed a new system for the delivery and assessment of industry training programmes. This system provides a solution the the problem of delivering courses to industry at an advanced level
The ABC Framework maps the levels of educational attainment from QAA and seec levels 4-7 to a new set of benchmarks covering skill competency in industry without losing the rigour and joy of learning often fostered in academia. This framework introduces new areas for assessment like literacy in data, information gathering and digital systems and the productive use of assistive emergent technologies. The ABC framework takes the concept of skills head-on and defines technical and transferable skills explicitly, breaking transferable skills down into personal and interpersonal categories.
The abc system develops the key transferable skills highlighted by industry that are required to survive, innovate and thrive within a rapidly changing landscape.
